Gordon's game 3...a repeat of game 2

GAME 3:  Gordon's game 3 a repeat of game 2...

With only a few of the details in game 3 being different, the Highlands played their way out of a trip to the College World Series. Chattanooga State started the game by taking a 1-0 lead only to have Gordon send 4 runners across the plate to take a 4-1 lead.  Gordon managed to score enough runs to take a 8-4 lead and those in attendance certainly had that deja vu feeling. A couple of errors allowed the Tigers to continue several innings and capitalize on the Gordon mistakes to take a 10-8 lead. That score was how the game would end and finish the Highlanders season.

Prior to this weekend's tournament, Gordon came in with their first national ranking of the season at #17 and should land a final top 25 ranking.

GAME 2:  Gordon lets game 2 slip away...

At first glance it seemed Gordon was well on their way to booking seats for Colorado. However, that excitement was short lived. After three innings with no hits by either team, Gordon scored six runs to take a 6-0 lead. Each team traded two runs and Gordon had an 8-2 advantage. Over the next couple of innings two costley errors by Gordon infielders led to 4 Chattanooga runs.

The Tigers took their first lead of the series in the bottom of the sixth scoring three runs to go ahead 10-8.  The Highlanders could not manage any offense in innings seven and eight  yet in the ninth inning they had a double and a walk and the thought of a comback victory was quelched when Chattanooga State turned a game ending double play and preserving a 10-8 victory.

It now comes down to one game on Sunday  for either team and to the victor a time to book those seats to Grand Junction.

GAME 1:  Gordon one step away...

Gordon College needs just one more victory to capture the East Central District Title. The Highlanders run-ruled Chattanooga State 10 - 0 in 5 innings despite an hour and forty five minute rain delay.  Gordon pounded out 11 hits while giving up only three.  With a game one victory in the best of three series, Gordon puts themselves in a position where the Tigers must win Saturday and Sunday in order to keep Gordon from advancing to the JUCO World Series.
